Record of a Thousand Lives: Chapter 15

Chapter 15.  Record of a Thousand Lives

The Ultica Ruin was wide and deep.

Kang Yoonsoo walked through the complicated, maze-like interior of the Ruin.

Although there were a lot of dangerous, hidden traps, and it was a difficult place to find your way, he progressed forwards safely.

“How do you know the way through the Ruin?  It’s so complicated.  Where we’re headed, too… I mean, I think I know, since…  You won’t even answer such questions, will you?”

 “Yup.”

Shanette inflated her cheeks slightly.

 “I knew that’s what you’d do.”

When they reached the end of the Ruin, they saw a shining, white gate.

The gate emitted a pale light, and looked as if it had been carved out of ivory.

Beyond the gate was the room that held the Ruin’s treasure.

However, a reliable monster was guarding the gate.

 “Karrrreung….!  Roork!”

The leader of the wolves.

The monster that desired the moonlight.

It was a werewolf.

An ordinary werewolf had the grip strength to crush a bull’s head in only one hand.

However, the monster guarding the gate had a much more vicious appearance than ordinary werewolves.

White light appeared to flow all over its body, and its claws were as sharp as a saw blade.

[The wild white beast (boss, level 104) has appeared.]

A monster over level 100.

It was a monster that was on an entirely different level than the ones Kang Yoonsoo had faced so far.

Although it was almost three meters tall, and almost as wide across, its balanced muscles made it very agile.

 “Rityek.  Urenokra-!”

The white beast knelt down and moved on all fours.

It rushed forward in the blink of an eye.

The white beast’s long and sharp claws whipped towards Kang Yoonsoo’s face.

Chichang-!

Just in time, Kang Yoonsoo pulled out his long sword and pushed away the claws.

However, there was no way he could match its strength.

Kang Yoonsoo’s hand appeared to be twisting, and the long sword bounced out of his hand and fell behind him.

Their contest of strength was completely one sided.

 “Dangerous!”

Shanette raised her scythe and hurriedly approached.

However Kang Yoonsoo refused her help with a wave of the hand.

 “Karrrreung….!  Urenokra!”

Roaring loudly, the white beast waved its long front claws through the air.

Sheeweek-!

The sound of those sharp, lethal weapons cutting though the air was scary.

The claws created a destructive whirlwind as the beast waved them in a cross.

However, Kang Yoonsoo was able to dodge all those attacks.

 “Urenokra!”

The white beast roared, whipping its claws and gnashing its teeth in frustration.

It followed up with a series of rapid attacks, but none of them were able to land on Kang Yoonsoo.

His movements weren’t fast or complicated.

He already knew the path of the oncoming attacks, and dodged them all with minimal effort..

Boowoong-!  Boowoon-!

The white beast’s claws were only able to graze the edge of his collar, pants, and hair.

Kang Yoonsoo did not make any mistakes like tripping or getting pushed against a wall.

His display made Shanette doubt her eyes.

The difference in their physical strength was massive.

Yet, as if he had already predicted the oncoming attacks, Kang Yoonsoo was able to stay a few seconds ahead of the white beast’s actions, and dodge the deadly attacks.

The white beast was not able to close that gap.

 “Lakildrag-!”

After roaring loudly, the white beast glared down at Kang Yoonsoo.

There was nothing else for it to do but accept it.

None of its attacks were working on this bastard!

Turning its head, the white beast fixed its attention on Shanette.

 “Karrrrreung….!”

If nothing was working on Kang Yoonsoo, then it’s only natural for it to change targets.

Panicking, Shanette raised her scythe.

The moment the white beast was about to rush forward and tear her up.

 “Lokr.”

Startled, the white beast came to a stop.

Lokr meant ‘look here’ in werewolf language.

The white beast’s attention again turned towards Kang Yoonsoo, who pulled a bright, shiny stone from his backpack.

It was the moonstone that has been refined at the Kellyine territory’s workshop.

 “Werewolves are infatuated with moonlight.”

The moonstone emitted soft moonlight.

It illuminated everything nearby with delicate moonlight, and that caused the werewolf’s instinct to fiercely awaken.

The boss monster, the wild white beast, rushed forward.

 “Caricradi!  Urenokra!”

The white beast attacked Kang Yoonsoo.

Kang Yoonsoo dodged the monster’s fierce attacks with small movements.

Lowering his upper body, he dodged the claws’ path, then took out rock steel daggers from his bosom.

He threw all of his remaining daggers at the white beast.

The daggers shallowly pierced the beast, buried between its tough muscles.

Kang Yoonsoo spoke quietly.

 “Shanette.”

 “Yes?”

“I’m hungry, make me some soup.”

 “…..”

Was that something anyone could say while fighting a boss monster?

* * *

It never dawned on Shanette that she would experience a day where she had to think about such things.

She had never guessed she would one day be leisurely making potato soup in a Ruin where monsters could appear at any moment, let alone when a ferocious boss monster was right in front of her.

In front of a campfire, Shanette said.

“Kang Yoonsoo, the soup is ready.”

 “Wine too.”

 “We’re out of wine.”

“The front pouch of the backpack.”

“This is honey wine.  Did you always have that?”

 “Stole it.”

 “…..From where?”

Kang Yoonsoo did not reply.

Holding a bowl of soup and the wine bottle tightly in each hand, Shanette asked.

“You stole it from Lord Hermione’s warehouse, right?  I can tell from its label.”

Kang Yoonsoo nodded his head without a word.

Only then did Shanette give the bowl of soup and the honey wine to Kang Yoonsoo.

“Don’t do that from now on.”

After spending some time with him, Shanette was starting to get used to Kang Yoonsoo.

She filled her own bowl with soup, too.

Shanette looked across the room and sighed.

“Should I give it some soup, too?”

 “No.”

 “Kareeeung….”

The wild white beast breathed heavily, no longer able to move its body.

After having rapidly attacked for many hours, the beast was now completely exhausted.

On the other hand, Kang Yoonsoo did not seem to have shed a drop of sweat, and still breathed evenly.

Unlike Kang Yoonsoo, who moved minimally while dodging the attacks, the white beast had fully exerted itself, and ultimately ran out of stamina.

On top of that, the daggers Kang Yoonsoo threw had strategically pierced the beast in a way that caused it enormous pain.

 “Urenokra-!”

The white beast could only cry out, unable to even stand up.

The moonstone was lodged at the top of one of the Ruin’s tall columns.

The white beast could only stare at the moonlight that the moonstone was emitting, after it had been placed there by Kang Yoonsoo.

The white beast cried out wrathfully.

 “Urenokra-!”

Shaking her head, Shanette asked.

 “What does Urenokra mean?”

 “Your father’s d***, bastard.”

 “…..”

Shanette’s expression was full of disbelief.

“I thought that it meant ‘I’ll tear you up.’ Since the beast kept repeating it.”

 “That’s not this beast’s nature.”

For some reason, Kang Yoonsoo spoke as if he knew the white beast very well.

After finishing the soup and cleaning up, the two stood up.

Kang Yoonsoo moved towards the white gate.

 “Caricradi!  Urenokra-!”

Gnashing its teeth, the white beast wailed loudly.

Not paying it any attention, Kang Yoonsoo opened the gate.

Kirreeek…..

The gate opened easily even without him having to put in much effort.

This ruin’s difficulty level was not that high to begin with.

Normally,  multiple boss monsters would be accompanied by underlings, and the gate would be tightly closed.

In those circumstances, it would only open once the boss monsters had been killed.

However, the Ultica Ruin was one of the easiest ruins on the continent. It only had one boss monster, and the gate could also be opened without killing the boss.

That’s how easy the Ultica Ruin’s difficulty level was.

As soon as the gate opened, a bright light shone.

Shanette was impressed.

“That must be the treasures of the Ruin!”

It was a tall and expansive room.

The gloriously bright light came from a large altar.

Although it was blinding, Kang Yoonsoo slowly walked up towards the altar.

Two items were visible on top of the altar, as if they had been placed there as a sacrifice.

Kang Yoonsoo took the possession of the Ultica Ruin’s treasure.
